  •  International Media Literacy Organizations

     
    Media Awareness Network. A bilingual, Canadian educational web site dedicated to media literacy among young people. This site contains a wide range of copy-right cleared resources to help teachers integrate media literacy and web literacy into their classrooms.

    Resources include: over one hundred and fifty elementary and secondary lesson plans; downloadable games and teacher's guides; an electronic "vertical file" of newspaper articles; current statistics and industry information; and an extensive Issues section on Privacy, Portrayal of Diversity, Ownership, Cultural Sovereignty, the Internet and Media Violence.
     
    Center for Media Literacy A pioneer in media literacy, CML is based in Los Angeles and is dedicated to promoting and supporting media literacy education as a framework for accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating media content, CML works to help citizens, especially the young, develop critical thinking and media production skills needed to live fully in the 21st century media culture. The ultimate goal is to make wise choices possible.
     
    Jesuit Communications Project  Canadian media literacy resource designed to encourage, promote, and develop Media Education in schools across Canada.which has over 2,500 books and periodicals on the media. Files of materials on Media Education programs from around the world and numerous clippings on a variety of media topics are also available for researchers.
     

    The Pauline Center for Media Studies.  Based in Culver City, CA (Los Angeles) aims to promote media mindfulness/media literacy education in schools and faith communities. Is particular strong on articles about and reviews of popular films.

    Faith Based International Media Organizations

     
    SIGNIS (World Catholic Association for Communication)  Brings together catholic communicators in the audio-visual media across the world. Strong interest in media education.
     
    WACC (World Association for Christian Communication)  An ecumenical association of communicators with a strong interst in promoting development and advocating for reform of the media.
     

     Intergovernmental organizations

    Council of Europe.  has a division on Media and Human Rights. Produces various resources including a Handbook on Internet Literacy and a Recommendation (2006) on empowering children and young people in the information society.
     
    European Charter for Media Literacy.  An EU initiative that is bringing together media literacy organizations and information from across Europe.
     

    Research

    American Psychological Association. Conducts and collects research on the psychological influence of interaction with the media most recently on the sexualisation of girls. It has produced a comprehensive list of resources.
